Love Yourself.

Happy almost Valentines Day, lovers. Let’s talk about love. I rarely ever talk about my love life on my blog, even more so in real life. When it comes to that aspect of my life, I feel as if I’m a very private person. Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day though and I will shamelessly say that I do not have a Valentine and I’m totally okay with it! Scrolling through all my feeds I keep reading hilarious memes about how pissed everyone is gonna be at the world when everyone is posting their photos of flowers, chocolate, and gifts. As funny as they are, I think that they are completely unnecessary. I’ll be the first to say that I am in love with love and I even think heartbreak is a beautiful thing. Everything about feeling passionately for someone is such a beautiful emotion and having a day out of the year to reflect on whichever emotion you feel, should be a reminder to be grateful for. Whether this is a day for you to embrace and celebrate the one you love or find yourself alone, absorb it all.

If you have a Valentine, enjoy! If you are alone, I think this day is even more beautiful for you. Being on your own can be scary, especially when on days you may find yourself surrounded by overly PDA couples but realize that it’s also a day to show love to someone who will be much more fulfilling than anyone else, and that’s you. If you don’t already, I challenge you to fall in love with yourself on this day. Loving yourself can be the best thing you could ever do not only for you, but for your own health, success, and future partner.

Before being able to love someone else, I have realized that I have to love myself. I’ve learned that the hard way with trying to fill voids that I had, through someone else’s being. In time, that never worked and I was still empty and never fully satisfied.  Research shows that self-acceptance can lead to a greater satisfaction with your life. Every day of the year you have the opportunity to look in the mirror and be happy with what you see and understand and feel justified about your own thoughts. This can be hard, especially if there are things that you don’t like about yourself but accept everything about yourself and this can only lead to growth.

When it comes to truly loving yourself, know what makes you special. There is absolutely nobody in the world like you. What are the things that about you that you are proud of? Your talents, your achievements, your own perspective on things? What are the things that your family and friends would say when bragging about you? Would you believe them? Every single day we have the opportunity to look in the mirror and love what we see and every second of the day we get to understand and feel justified about our own thoughts.

Once you learn to love yourself, there is no one who can love you more than that and having that on your own is a very gratifying feeling. It can directly effect every other decision you make and the quality of your relationships, your work, your free time, your faith, and your future. In order to do so, it takes a lot of self reflecting and its not as easy as a quick decision as we may wish, but over time a process of self-development that is completely worth it. Be emotionally honest with where you’re at in life and be patient with your own inner transformation. You intuition will guide you once you learn to let go.Loving yourself is about being confident and accepting yourself, flaws and all. Once you do, everything else becomes effortless. It is the foundation for your own happiness and success. Your positive inner being will radiate and will attract others just like yourself in the most healthiest way.

Walking past store windows filled with red and pink hearts and gift ideas for this special day used to be painful, but now that this Valentines Day is here, I appreciate the essence of love and most importantly, myself, even more. If you see kissing couples on the street, smile and be happy for them as positive energy can only come back. Buy yourself your favorite candy, a bouquet of roses for your kitchen, and if you see a handbag you want in the window, GET IT because I know I will!

X,

Alyssa Camille
